By my lights... Ilopango Lake is one of the most interesting places in our country.

To commemorate the Independence of El Salvador, today I have decided to talk about one of the places that, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful and fascinating in our country. Although a few years ago it was not an attractive place for tourists, in recent years it has improved and that is also one of the reasons why I want to write some interesting things about this impressive place...

First of all, did you know that this lake is a volcanic caldera? According to the history of the place, the volcano erupted about a thousand years ago, and because of that eruption the volcano submerged and gave origin to Ilopango Lake. This volcano was known as one of the most active volcanoes in history, and it’s said that if it erupts again, it would destroy all Central America, is that true? I'm not sure, but it’s terrifying to think about it.
Also, it's important to mention where the name "Ilopango" comes from, well, it comes from the concept Xilopango or Xilote that in Nahuatl language means "Valle de los Elotes" or "Diosa del MaΓz", which is pretty nice because you can effectively see around the lake many corn crops. Likewise, the Volcano was formerly called "Xilotepec", which means "Cerro del Elote". Personally, I have always liked to read curiosities about this lake, since it contains a lot of history and also because it's near where I live, that is why I feel great love for it. I really like to take walks to see it from the top, every time I have time I go to see it because it makes me feel so much peace, despite the history it hides.

There is a little road near my house that takes me to it, and although I have never had the courage to go down to the lake by that road, since it is said to be dangerous, the view from above is simply wonderful. The place where you can have a better panoramic view of the lake is called "El Mango", it's normal that many people from my neighborhood visit the place because you can also do some physical exercise, then you get to the end of the road, and you find a captivating view. You can see the whole lake, the small islands and even the volcano of San Vicente in the background. It’s just wonderful, I wish you could be here to see it. In conclusion, Ilopango Lake is wonderful, and I would like many people to know more about it, you can visit "Apulo", "CafΓ© Santa Cruz" and many more places.

Thanks for reading me, xx.
